El Salvador, Pacific Coastal area (?)
12 x 19.4 cm (4 3/4 x 7 5/8 in.)
Earthenware: dull gray slip paint on orange slip paint
 

Dish with four mammiform supports. Exterior of dish is embellished with four motifs composed of five parallel lines and painted diagonally on the side of the vessel. These are painted with a dull dark gray slip that contrasts with the vessel's shiny monochrome orange slip paint.

Earthenware: white on orange slip paint
 

Seated elderly male hunchback figure with arms folded across chest. The effigy is hollow and open at the bottom. The hump on his back is enclosed and contains small spheres that produce a rattling sound. Atop the figure's head is a panache of square-cut feathers or perhaps cropped hair.
